About Us

We are two Canadian couples who have been friends for years. Instead of retiring in Canada, we have invested our money, our time and our hearts in a country previously unknown to any of us.

The Owners - The Laughing Pelican

A couple we know purchased property in El Salvador 9 years ago and have been improving their property since. Recently, they retired happily, to their dream home and life on the beach. As their guests, we fell in love with the people, the places and most of all, the ranchos on the playa (homes on the beach). We did a very rash thing for Canadians... and bought a piece of property.

Today we share our treasure with others who wish to be introduced to the virtues of this tropical paradise. Our lives have changed. Life is simpler, daily life is closer to nature and our network of friends continues to grow.

The day is warm, the breezes cooling, and the fabulous fresh fruit and vegetables are delicious!  People are friendly and there is so much to share.

Sure sounds like paradise to us!

Our Dream

We have great plans for The Laughing Pelican - El Salvador Guest House, and it will continue to be a work in progress. Even so, it will always be warm and welcoming--and a special place filled with laughter, joy and treasured memories.

It is our desire to offer our guests access to all the hidden treasures of El Salvador. We intend to share the local colour of "the beach" as our area is called, as well as to share the history, culture and personalities of the lovely little country.

We, in Canada and the US have heard so many stories of wars, rebellion and unstable living conditions, that most of us know very little about the reality of El Salvador today.

El Salvador is a country the size of Maryland USA and inhabits 6 million people. It is a country with hope and promise. Businesses are iinvesting in the country, construction is flourishing and it's people have found peace. Even through political uncertainty, it's people thrive, and life goes on.

Community Counts

We have a very special project in process with Miguel Angel Ramirez and the children of El Salvador and of Vancouver Island on the West Coast of Canada. click here to find out more... click here for more details...
